Travel providers are faced with the challenge of withstanding the high competitive pressure from internet providers and comparison portals. This makes personal contact with customers all the more important - also for Wolfgang Scheinert from Tourismusverband Ostbayern.

Why are you taking part in this year's f.re.e?
f.re.e has been in our trade fair calendar for decades and we will be there every year and next year again, of course. So this is always our best trade fair of the year. Of course, we are also represented at other trade fairs. But Munich is always a home game. The audience is great, the visitor numbers are great, the brochure sales are great, what more could we want?

What is so special about f.re.e?
I think it's simply the diversity of travel on offer. And we ourselves have a super diverse range of outdoor, wellness and thermal spas in the region of Eastern Bavaria, which appeals to many people. You can also experience a lot at f.re.e. There's something for families, there's something for older people, there's something for everyone.

How does the cooperation between the East Bavarian Tourism Association and f.re.e work?
The cooperation is always excellent, there is always an open ear for us. We've had the same regular place for years, we're very happy there, and whenever something really doesn't fit, they always look to see if something can be done better. So it really is an excellent team. You can't really do better than that.

What are the current challenges for your region?
So of course, due to the crises and everything around it, people are looking more and more at money, of course. We have a lot of rural areas in our vacation region and are more of a second or third vacation destination, which also saves money. But it's still relatively inexpensive here. And when guests are reminded that it is possible to go on vacation for a reasonable price, we are the right people to talk to.

How does f.re.e help to overcome these challenges?
Of course, if you look on the Internet, there is a huge variety and you don't even know where to start. And if you talk to the guest in person, then you can simply pick out a vacation destination tailored to their needs and that is simply the important thing, that you have personal contact at a trade fair and that you can talk directly to the guest.

What is f.re.e for you?
For me, f.re.e is simply a wonderful platform for our vacation themes and vacation regions and in three words: brochure sales, audience structure, visitor magnet.

Will Tourismusverband Ostbayern be there again next year?
We will certainly be back next year, we will even be a partner region and look forward to many more visitors.
